7 Weekend Getaways from Ahmedabad by Road

Two days, one car and no flights. These are the drives our Ahmedabad travellers ask for most.

1. Udaipur — 4 hours

Lakes, palaces and rooftop dinners. Stay by Lake Pichola and take the sunset boat. Best from October to March. 2. Mount Abu — 4 hours

Rajasthan's only hill station, with the Dilwara temples and Nakki Lake. Cool even in May.

3. Polo Forest — 2.5 hours

Ruined 15th-century temples in a teak forest near Idar. Magical in the monsoon, from July to September.

4. Saputara — 7 hours

Gujarat's hill station in the Sahyadris, best right after the monsoon when the waterfalls are full.

5. Rann of Kutch — 6 hours

The white salt desert under a full moon, during Rann Utsav from November to February.

6. Diu — 7.5 hours

Portuguese forts, quiet beaches and seafood. Pleasant all winter.

7. Gir — 6 hours

Asiatic lions in their only wild home. Safaris run from mid-October to mid-June; book permits early.
