Leh
Overview
Ladakh rewards patience. This plan gives your body a full day at Leh's 3,500 m before any sightseeing and climbs gradually: an easy local day, then over Khardung La to the Nubra valley, across to Pangong Tso for a night by the lake, and back to Leh over Chang La with a stop at Thiksey monastery. One SUV with an experienced Ladakhi driver stays with you throughout.

Important information
Leh is at about 3,500 m and you fly straight in: rest completely on Day 1, drink plenty of water, avoid alcohol and smoking, and ask your doctor about acute mountain sickness before you travel. Anyone with heart or lung conditions, and pregnant travellers, need medical advice first. Indian nationals need an Inner Line Permit for Nubra and Pangong; we apply with your photo ID, and you must carry the originals. Only post-paid mobile connections from other states work in Ladakh; at Pangong signal is weak or absent. Pangong camps have limited electricity and no heating; nights are cold even in July. The Nubra-Pangong Shyok road depends on conditions - if it is closed the route goes back through Leh and the plan changes by a day.

Roads to Nubra and Pangong are open from about May to September. Flights to Leh run all year, but winter trips are a different, colder plan.
Will I get altitude sickness?+
Mild headache and breathlessness are common on the first day. That is why Day 1 is a full rest day and the trip climbs gradually. Talk to your doctor before you travel.
Do Indians need a permit?+
Yes - an Inner Line Permit for Nubra and Pangong, plus environment fees. We arrange them; carry your original ID.
Will my phone work?+
Post-paid connections from other states work in Leh and most of Nubra. Prepaid SIMs from outside do not. Expect little or no signal at Pangong.
Can we go by road from Manali?+
Yes - add 2 days for the Manali-Leh highway with a night at Jispa or Sarchu. It also helps acclimatisation.
